Most large companies maintain a function devoted to internal or employee communication. The profession's term for this is organizational communication—having to do with managing the communication process inside the organization. Many small companies don't have a function like this.

As far as I've been able to tell, there's no correlation between the presence of an organizational communication function, its size or the number of dollars allocated to it, and communication effectiveness inside the business.
