Acknowledgments

I would like to thank the group of people who have helped me the most to achieve clarity in the confusing topic that is leadership: my students in my leadership programs at INSEAD. Without their willingness to talk frankly about very personal issues of concern, this book would never have been written. Through the years, they’ve kept me on target, offering their lives as case studies as we’ve talked about substantive issues in leadership.

As always, I would like to express my gratitude to INSEAD’s R&D department – in particular, Anil Gaba, and the always helpful Alison James. Whatever strange road I’ve taken – and there have been a few – they’ve always been cheerleaders, encouraging me in my research endeavors.
