What Can We Learn?

As I drove away following my tour, I felt really good about what I had seen and experienced at this wonderful institution. But I also knew that there were lessons to be learned by businesses of all types in observing how business is done at St. Jude:

  • I saw firsthand the power of every employee being made to feel like family. I saw the importance of that family embracing their customers, in this case patients, as extended family.

  • I observed the benefit of a clear and strong mission. Everyone in this organization understands his or her role in serving these kids. Physician to staff, executive to volunteer, everyone understands what they do and how it serves what they are all about, which is saving the lives of children.
