Lesson Number Nine:

On Staying Grounded

On Monday morning when people started to arrive at Williamson Associates, Sammy was already in and working hard. In fact, he’d been working there much of the weekend and had e-mailed the staff that he wanted to meet again in the large conference room at 10:00 a.m.

The entire office was buzzing over George’s resignation. So Sammy was feeling a little strong yet very weak at this particular moment. Indirectly, he’d made a bold change—but now what? The first person he called in before the staff meeting was Vince.

“Vince, you know that George quit.”

“Yes,” Vince said.

“How does that make you feel?”

“Surprised.”

“I understand that. I just want you to know that I hope you stay with me…the company.”

“Okay,” Vince ...
