Turn on the Birthday Calendar
If you’re good about adding people’s birthdays to their contact info, you can use the built-in Birthdays calendar. This calendar will appear along with the rest of your calendars if it’s turned on (tap on the Calendar app, then tap Calendars at the top left, and you’ll see it under Other), and people’s birthdays will automatically appear in it when you have their birthday in their contact info (from a contact’s Info screen, tap Edit, then near the bottom, tap Add Field.
