French IR origins and arguments in a comparative perspective

What does French IR look like? This chapter makes a first step to answering this question through four sections and two supplementing perspectives. First comes an introduction to the historical origins of modern French IR in an international context, and a sketch of its institutional development and comparatively special traits since 1945 in relatively straightforward phenomenological terms, but grounded in a reflection on the origins of the “international” as object for first- and second-order practice.
