Imtiaz Dharker

Imtiaz Dharker, who now lives in Mumbai, was born in Lahore in 1954, but grew up in Glasgow, Britain. A post-graduate in two subjects (English Literature and Philosophy) from the University of Glasgow, she not only writes but also paints and makes documentary films. Her poems often begin from an image and are accompanied by drawings. In 1989, the multi-faceted Imtiaz published her first book Purdah and Other Poems, about travelling between cultures. In her second book Postcards from God (1994), a bewildered God is struck with anguish on surveying a city which is gripped by fundamentalism.
