1. Lifting procedures. To reduce the number of strains from lifting, training on lifting was conducted. Weight limits were also established for workers. For example, two men were needed to lift anything weighing over fifty pounds. This and other lifting procedures were tested and adherence monitored. After some minor changes to the procedures, a policy was developed that spelled out the lifting procedures at the plant. Once the policy was agreed on, lifting procedures became part of the progressive discipline system.
