How to Read the Book

A relative novice to formal improvement methods could improve his or her ability to make effective changes by a combination of reading and applying the methods. The reader could start with Part One and begin applying the Model for Improvement to some aspect of work. Another approach is to read Part One and some parts of Appendix A to gather some ideas about the types of changes that others have found useful. As skill is increased or particular problems are encountered, the reader may want to read specific sections of Parts Two or Three. Appendix B can serve as a guide to tools that the novice may wish to learn about and apply in honing improvement skills.
