Strategies for Testing

Developing an overall strategy for testing a change or changes is an important activity. We suggest using the structured format of the PDSA Cycle to accomplish each test. The aim should be to gain knowledge and increase degree of belief rapidly with minimal resources. Table 7.11 provides some guidance.
Here are some important questions to consider in planning your testing strategy:
• Are historical data available to act as a basis of comparison? If so, take advantage of this in the first test cycle.
• How likely are threats to misinterpretation of the results because an external event is present on or about the same time the change is made? A historically stable process makes this threat less likely.
