13 FM Considerations

In this chapter we discuss the implications of hybrid1 IBOC operation on FM transmission facilities. The goal of hybrid FM IBOC signal generation and amplification is to radiate analog and digital signals that are as undistorted as possible and are in proper power relationship to each other. As discussed in Chapter 9, the emissions of the hybrid FM IBOC signal must also protect the FM band from excessive out-of-band emissions. In this chapter, we examine the various forms of hybrid combining for FM IBOC signals.
