M&A communication cannot be reduced to a single formula. Just as the types of deals and their motives vary, so should the approach to communicating about these deals. For some M&As, honest and open communication at the outset will be all that is necessary for a successful transaction. But for the majority of M&As, a great deal of planning and implementation will be necessary from the moment the deal is conceived and will continue to be necessary throughout the life of the merged organization. This will help a sound M&A reach its full potential by reducing the amount of nonproductive time spent in dealing with personality clashes and employee misunderstandings.
