Most communicators are in the enviable position of attending a wide cross-section of meetings because we often have to write about them. Get yourself invited to even more. What is preoccupying your salespeople? What about marketing? What are the trends in customer complaints?

Take peers from other areas out for coffee and interview them. Surf the company intranet in areas you know nothing about. Go to optional webinars if they are available. Get on the list for reports about business metrics.
