EVER since Donald Trump bought the Plaza (on his way to buying up the rest of the world), there has been a great deal of conjecture about what his ownership will mean for the hotel. Similar speculation invariably engulfed previous sales. In the months following this latest transaction, a mixed picture has been developing. Fortunately, the quiet elegance of the hotel has still been very much in evidence. No mirrors have been mounted on the ceilings of rooms. More amazingly, Trump has somehow managed to restrain himself from putting his name on the building. The place has, in fact, improved in some cosmetic ways.
