1 10-kohm, 1/4-watt resistor, 10% (brown-black-orange)

1 10-kohm (10,000-ohm) variable resistor

1 Solderless breadboard

1 USB-to-XBee adapter

1 USB cable—type-A to mini-B

Digi X-CTU software running on a Windows PC, with an open USB port

Small screwdriver, flat blade

Optional

1 39-kohm, 1/4-watt resistor, 10% (orange-white-orange)

1 Photoresistor, PDV-P9003-1 (see Bill of Materials in Appendix F)

1 5V DC power supply
