10.2. Trends in the Publication of IP-Related Articles, 1986–2006
Table 10.1 reports the journals from which the research-oriented articles related to IP and innovation were identified. Although far from comprehensive, the list includes prominent peer-reviewed outlets in management (e.g., the Strategic Management Journal and Management Science), economics (e.g., the American Economic Review and Quarterly Journal of Economics), law and economics (e.g., the Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization and the Journal of Law and Economics), and finance (e.g., the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Finance). Owing to their significance as outlets for research on innovation, specialized journals such as Research Policy, Economics of Innovation and New Technologies (EINT), and Industrialand Corporate Change (ICC) also are included. Each journal was searched for articles published between 1986 and 2006 that contain one or more of the following terms in their titles, abstracts, or keywords: intellectual property, intangible asset, intellectual capital, patent, trademark, copyright, or secret (secrecy). Book reviews, research notes, and articles in conference proceedings are excluded.
