WHICH ASSESSMENTS, AND WHEN?

Once a coach and client have identified a coaching issue for which an assessment may be appropriate, the next questions are which assessment to use, and when? In some engagements, and particularly in organizations with an established coaching culture and protocol, specific assessments may be conducted just prior to beginning a coaching engagement, but whenever possible it is beneficial for the coach and client to establish rapport and trust before embarking on an assessment process. The client might have historical data (such as previous 360-degree feedback results); re-administration could be enlightening. Benchmark data could be helpful in monitoring progress or growth.
