Issues of Gender

Sally Helgesen (1995), Deborah Tannen (1990, 1994), and Carol Gilligan (1982), among other feminist researchers, argue that there is a culture specific to the female gender. Helgesen states that there are qualities women leaders bring to organizations. Tannen postulates that men and women have different ways of speaking, both in their personal and professional lives. And according to Gilligan, women’s moral development is culturally distinct from moral development in men. Both styles—male and female—are equally valid.
