CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE: GOLEMAN

The concept of cultural intelligence was based on Goleman’s theory of emotional intelligence or EQ (1998) and Gardner’s work on multiple intelligences (1983). Plum (2007) defines cultural intelligence as “the ability to make oneself understood and the ability to create a fruitful collaboration in situations where cultural differences play a role” (p. 1). Emotional intelligence as conceived by Goleman does not explain the worldview developed by a person with a multicultural identity.
