DIMENSIONS OF CULTURAL DIFFERENCES: HOFSTEDE

A pioneer in the study of defining cultures by certain variables, Geert Hofstede (1980) analyzed a large database of employee value scores within IBM from seventy countries around the world. He later extended his studies to other population categories, demonstrating that national and regional cultural groupings affect the behavior of societies and organizations persistently across time. He developed a cultural dimension model that reflects major cultural differences in how people from certain cultures think, feel, and behave over time.
