STRATEGIES FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Coaches can learn to apply various strategies that support sustainability. These strategies are also effective for classroom teachers coaching students toward self-directed learning.

The Coaching Continuum is a flexible model of coaching that requires that one learn to flow between the roles of consultant, collaborator-mentor, and coach (Lipton, Wellman, & Humbard, 2003) to stimulate and fuel an accelerated model of learning. Each role has a different purpose. At times, coaching situations call for the use of multiple approaches that are more direct, action-oriented, and skills-based.
