Team and Group Behavior
Coaching in organizations has generally been conducted in a dyadic (one-on-one) format designed to improve individual effectiveness. But increasingly, organizations are using teams to accomplish complicated work. A growing awareness that what matters is the performance of the team, and that individual coaching might overlook the impact of systemic factors, has given rise to the practice of team coaching. Research in team coaching has so far been sparse, but there is plenty to be learned from related disciplines. This chapter integrates general small group theory and coaching practice to deepen our understanding of how teams and groups may be coached toward higher performance.
