PEOPLE HAVE CHOICES: HENRY STAPP
The claim that human beings have the capacity to make choices is generally unquestioned among coaches. However, this assumption has been opposed by a substantial portion of the scientific community (see, for example, Dennett, 1991), which defends a mechanistic paradigm which assumes that material causes determine all that happens, and that causality operates in only one direction. In this view, choice is an illusion. The new systemic paradigm offers a different view, one that draws on quantum theory to validate our subjective experience of making real choices.
