CSIKSZENTMIHALYI AND THE CONCEPT OF FLOW

Flow, or “being in the zone,” is the intense psychological experience of being fully immersed in an activity. According to Csikszentmihalyi (1990), flow is a transcendent experience of everyday life. It is best understood as the experience of being so caught up in an activity that time becomes irrelevant. Flow-inducing activities tend to be structured, to provide a balance of challenges and skills, to offer clear goals and immediate feedback, to provide a sense of control, and to produce complete concentration and loss of awareness of oneself.
