Glossary

Here are some terms or words that you might hear daily in the course of your stay in the film and television business. A few of these words may be exclusive to the grip department, but for the sake of understanding the overall flavor of a working set, you should be aware of some general words that are used almost daily. Here is an example: You are a grip who was asked to work the sticks for the camera department. The AD yells “tail slate!” or your may hear “grab a Gary Coleman, with a postage stamp, and put an ear on the third zip light” or “lamp right next to the egg crate, then drop some beach on that hog trough before they pull the buck.” “Say what?” you ask.
