Not too long ago, our German office considered making a change to one of the statements on our employee survey. The survey asks whether employees view their workplace as a "fun" place to work, but the German researchers in that office believed that an exact German translation of "fun" might not make sense from a German cultural-work perspective. They considered a series of other options, and determined that they would substitute "deep joy" for "fun."
