6. The Benefits of Vulnerability

In my years of working with people, I’ve found Mother Nature’s advice to be sound. Individuals, couples, families, and organizations who acknowledge their vulnerabilities benefit because acknowledging their vulnerability allows them to ask for help.

An individual who recognizes a job deficiency is more apt to seek out help to improve than one who is defensive. A couple who confront their feelings that their marriage is vulnerable to divorce is more likely to take action to resolve their problems. Parents who acknowledge that their teenagers are vulnerable to substance abuse give themselves the opportunity to help their kids rise above it.
