Appendix B: A Work-Out Simulation Exercise: The United Bank of London1

Part of any Work-Out is devoted to brainstorming improvement ideas—and then prioritizing these into those ideas that the team feels will help to achieve the team’s goal. In this exercise, facilitators practice the skills needed to help teams prioritize their ideas using the Payoff Matrix (Figure 2-4).

Facilitator Instructions

1. Ask one person to assume the role of team leader. Ask other people to assume the other roles on the team.

2. Lead a warm-up exercise with the group in which members introduce themselves and say what their favorite magazine is, and why.
