Force.com Full-Text Search Engine

Web-based application users have come to expect an interactive search capability to scan the entire or a selected scope of an application’s data, return ranked results that are up to date, and do all this with sub-second response times. To provide such robust functionality for platform applications, Force.com uses an architecture based on an external search engine, as depicted in Figure 12.
