Chapter 1. The Best Team Experience

I often begin my team-building sessions and seminars with a great exercise that pinpoints what makes for a really good team. I give the individuals present (who consist mostly of current managers and team leaders or those about to move into these roles) the following task: Think of the best team you have ever worked on, or currently work on, or unfortunately, if neither applies, could imagine working on.

A minute or two later, after they have thought about the assignment, I ask them this question: What about that team made it, makes it, or in your fantasy, would make it such a great team?
