In today’s digital world, computer-generated imagery, or CGI, is more commonplace in low-budget films. CGI can be anything that requires a computer to manipulate the image, such as rod and string removal, compositing, digital explosions, muzzle flashes for guns, spaceships, laser beams, or anything else you can imagine. On low-budget films, the visual effects (VFX) team is usually a small company, or more commonly, one very talented person doing all the visual effects.
