Overview

When the first edition of The Facilitators Fieldbook was written, most facilitation just involved human interaction in face-to-face (FTF) groups that were working together “live.” This section, Facilitating in a Virtual World, was introduced in the second edition, when the use of some technologies in working with groups was in the early stages of development, as was the use of technology to connect people who were not colocated into the same meeting or presentation. Subsequent developments that have encouraged virtual facilitation have included (a) technological developments, (b) globalization, (c) economic constraints, and (d) competitive pressures.
