A HIGH RESOLUTION POINT-WISE RESIDUAL ERROR ESTIMATOR

8.1 INTRODUCTION

In Chapter 6, an error estimator that quantifies the discretization errors in a finite element model in terms of the interelement jumps in the finite element strain representation was demonstrated. The interelement jumps in strains are shown to be an aggregation of the point-wise residuals that exist when a finite element solution does not satisfy the governing differential equations being solved.
