FOREWORD

People say that 50 percent of getting any job is getting the chance to sit across the desk from the hiring manager. Seems right to me, but over the years, it has also been my experience that in their desire to get there, lots of candidates are so focused on that objective that they forget about the first 50 percent, or at least they take a lot of it for granted.

People think that the name of the game, especially in these cyber times, is to get a resume and then fire salvo after salvo into the ether and wait for a phone call, e-mail, or text message—an oversimplification perhaps, but sad to say, not all that far off.
