18. SHADOWS

Artists often use shadows in portraits to create a special effect. This is not something you want during your digital interviews, however. When I talk about shadows, I mean things like dark bags underneath your eyes. Not a good look. Make sure you’ve set up the correct lighting in your home studio, which will prevent any unflattering shadows. What constitutes “correct lighting” was covered in the lighting chapter, but I truly want to emphasize the fact that you do not want to have any shadows cast on your face.
