The term angel originated in the 1920s in Los Angeles when high net individuals came up with the money to produce the first Hollywood films. Hollywood folks referred to these early investors as angels, just as theater folks do.
Someone that invests as a high-net-worth individual into an early stage company is an angel. Some people say business angels. I just say angels.
