CASE STUDY

Sally gets up on a Monday morning feeling tired, as usual, and she engages in the same old routine – the Monday morning mental complaining. She starts by noticing how tired she is; then the mind chatter begins – that internal dialogue that Sally has with herself. It usually goes something like this:

‘Ugh, the alarm, what time is it?’

‘It’s 6.30am.’

‘It can’t be; I just went to bed. Have I even slept?’

‘I should get up.’

‘I’ll just snooze for five more minutes.’

‘Ok.’

‘How do I feel, anyway?’

‘I feel exhausted. What did I do over the weekend?’

‘Nothing major. I shouldn’t feel this bad.’

‘I should have gone to bed on time instead of watching that film last night.’

‘Am I coming down with something? Maybe I should call in sick.’
