Exercise: Quick mind dump

This exercise is a quick version of the de-stress technique (Chapter 3) to help you get just enough off your mind so that you can sleep.

  1. To get started: grab a pen and paper or journal.
  2. Divide the pad into two sections and head each section with the following titles 1. Issue on my mind; 2. Insight/solution/schedule.
  3. In the first section just write down everything that is keeping you awake. Here are some prompts:
    • What’s keeping me up?
    • What is it that I’m dealing with that I can’t solve?
    • What am I afraid of?
    • What’s the most pressing thing I need to do?
    • What do I keep forgetting to do?
  4. As you are writing you may see solutions to problems, gain some insights or see the need to take some action or schedule an action. Write ...
