Exercise for relaxation before sleeping

This exercise helps you to relax your body before sleeping. It works by relaxing each part of the body in turn, giving a total body relaxation.

  1. Lie in bed in a comfortable position.
  2. Start with your legs. Tense all the muscles in your legs including your feet. Hold for five seconds then let go and relax. Feel the tension completely drain away as you relax.
  3. Then do the same with your torso, including stomach muscles, back and chest.
  4. Then tense all the muscles in your arms, including your hands, for five seconds and relax.
  5. Finally, tense the muscles in your neck, face and head and relax.
  6. Feel the relaxation that you now have as you let the tension go.
