Employer’s Legal Pad—Chapter Seven Checklist

Take no one at his word when there is a way to verify what he has told you. When there is no way to verify, trust your instincts, and do so with caution and self-honesty.

  • When conducting an investigation, be sure to remind witnesses to tell the truth. Make sure they know they won’t get in trouble for it.
  • Verify what people tell you.
  • Consider time cards and electronic files as evidence of people’s whereabouts.
  • When checking company records, do it yourself whenever possible rather than asking someone else to do it for you.
