Employer’s Legal Pad—Chapter Three Checklist

Prompt corrective action is a key to avoiding legal disputes down the road. The longer you allow inappropriate behavior to exist, the greater your chance of facing a lawsuit.

  • Require employees to write and sign a “State of Employment” form so they can review the company. Such an employee review may help you identify potential problems.
  • Reference any problems or complaints in employee reviews, and hold on to those reviews as you may need them years later.

Be aware of the tone of your communications, especially when dealing with employees who have done no wrong but may face a layoff, demotion, loss of overtime, or other cutbacks.
