Employer’s Legal Pad—Chapter One Checklist

No one wants to get sued by a disgruntled current or former employee. No one enjoys the demand on their time, the strain on the company, the financial burden, and the enormous distraction. Yet sometimes litigation happens, and since you don’t know when it will happen, here are three important action items for all employers all the time:

1.
Document every employment decision, including decisions to hire, not hire, discipline, promote, and demote.
2.
Communicate the true and actual business-related reason for every employment decision you make.
3.
Look into all complaints promptly, and maintain records of your investigations.
