Excused Absences

Excused absences will not be assessed points. Merely reporting an absence does not mean that it will be excused, however fewer points are assessed than in cases of unreported (AWOL) absences. Excused absences are limited to the following:

  • FMLA-approved leave (it is the employee’s obligation to apply for FMLA leave, so be certain to apply to avoid the assessment of points)

  • Vacations, holidays, and other approved leaves

  • Layoff resulting from lack of work

  • Disciplinary layoffs

  • Absences related to on-the-job injury

  • Authorized leaves of absence

  • Required court appearances such as jury duty or being summoned as a witness (note that personal appearances for criminal matters will not be excused; personal appearances for the employee’s own civil ...
