Eventually Jason speaks up. “None of the concepts in agile are new,” he says. “Most of them exist in older methodologies that you’re too young to remember.”

“That’s true,” you reply. “Agile combines many ideas from lean and effective management. I consider agile as a second chance to apply these values, principles, and practices to help us improve the way we work.”

Although Jason understands how agile could work in principle, he tells you this organization is different. “We’re the exception to the rule. It won’t work here.”

You’ve heard this response many times before.

Jason continues. “To be honest, I’m skeptical about agile. We’ve been doing it for ages, and all I can see are problems emerging one after another.”
