Stand Where You Stand

We learned this exercise from Joan Naake of Montgomery College in Germantown, Maryland. We like how it teaches people about the complexities of an issue using physical movement and how it opens up the possibility of changing one's mind.

Purposes

  • To improve participants' ability to develop and articulate arguments
  • To invite the possibility of changing one's mind in the face of more convincing arguments or evidence
  • To use physical movement to represent changes in thinking

How It Works

  • The facilitator identifies an issue of importance to a community, class, or organization.
