Critical Incident Questionnaire (CIQ)

The Critical Incident Questionnaire (CIQ) is a one-page, five-item instrument that provides anonymous feedback on how discussions are progressing.

Purposes

  • To provide regular, valid information on how people experience discussions
  • To help facilitators judge the accuracy of their assumptions about what best helps people learn
  • To detect problems early before they get out of hand
  • To help participants appreciate the range of learning preferences in a group
  • To model critical thinking by instructors and leaders
  • To keep resistance in accurate perspective
