Glossary of Key Terms

 

 

 

Action.   What one character is doing to another character. It should be a playable verb: a concrete action that an actor can pursue for several minutes. It should also be an active and easy to understand verb, something we would use in everyday conversation.

Asymmetrical compositions.   The characters’ positions do not form a symmetrical pattern but may still find balance through angles, variety, and relative weight. Asymmetrical compositions tend to be more dynamic and less formal; if unbalanced, an asymmetrical composition may suggest disorder or chaos.
