Auditions and Casting

 

 

It may seem strange at first to think of an actor’s audition as a collaboration. After all, the actor is trying out for job: a role in your production. Think of the audition as your first “test” collaboration. It is in your interest to create an environment in which every actor does his or her best work, so that you can choose the best actors for your ensemble. Yet the pressures of most audition situations are likely to hinder actors from doing their best work, and their desire to please directors might prevent them from collaborating to the best of their abilities during the audition.
