The main reason most professional photographers choose DSLRs is for the control. Sure, image quality is a big factor, but fine control over photographic fundamentals such as exposure and depth of field (also known as depth of focus) are the purview of the DSLR. The DSLR is also typically the fastest and most flexible device for high-quality photography.
