Adding the Line Drawing

It would be nice if you could see the line work clearly over the top of the form painting. There is a problem, however: if you move the drawing to the top layer and set it to Multiply, it obscures the tone work. Use the Curves dialog box to thin out and lighten the lines so the form painting shows through. Here’s how you do this:

1. Duplicate the Background layer, rename it DrawingLighter, and move it above the Form group.

2. Set the blending mode to Multiply.

3. Open the Curves dialog box. Move the white point in halfway to the left to erode the black lines and make them thinner.

4. Raise the black point up halfway to make the black lines gray so they have less impact on the form when multiplied over it.
